A Victorian Man Has Tested Positive For COVID-19 After Completing Hotel Quarantine In SA

The Victorian DHHS has confirmed that a Melbourne man in his 30s has returned a positive COVID test after returning from overseas and completing hotel quarantine.

The man is said to have returned from overseas and engaged in a full hotel quarantine period in South Australia, returning to his Wollert home on May 4th. Four days later on May 8th he reportedly developed symptoms and sought testing, before a positive result was returned yesterday.

Per a press release from the DHHS, a “full public health response is underway,” and the man is currently isolating at home awaiting further testing to confirm the diagnosis. His household primary contacts are also being tested and interviewed, and a full list of potential exposure sites is currently being prepared.

DHHS officials assert that until subsequent testing confirms or quashes the diagnosis, the department is “treating this as a positive case and acting accordingly.”

“The Department is working with interstate counterparts to determine the likely source of this infection,” the statement concludes.

More to come as this story develops.
