Attention Meme Lords, Vic’s Deputy Secretary Of Covid Response Wants You To ‘Make A Gif’ Of Her

Calling all meme lords, meme page owners, and graphic designers, Victoria’s Deputy Secretary of Covid-19 Response, Kate Matson, is asking you to “make a GIF” of her. No, I’m not joking.

In an effort to get young people to encourage their friends to not breach lockdown and meet up in person, Matson has made a bizarre request in this morning’s Victoria COVID-19 conference to turn her words into the state’s new meme.

“I remember being under 30, although I’m not going to pretend that I understand exactly how people in that age group communicate,” she said.

“If you have got TikTok on your phone, if you have got Snapchat on your phone, if you have Binge on your phone, if you do online gaming, feel free to make a GIF or a meme of something I am saying.”

Matson said I’m not a regular Deputy Secretary of Covid-19 Response, I’m a cool Deputy Secretary of Covid-19 Response. Side note: does she know how these apps work?

“But my message to everyone in that youth… isolate, minimise transmission, communicate with your friends through your phone, through online, through phone calls, but please, don’t catch up together until we get out of this,” she continued.

“That is my message for you today.”

You heard the lady. So, without further adieu, here’s what few photos of Victoria’s Deputy Secretary of Covid-19 Response Kate Matson we could find on Getty Images.

A quick skim through TikTok and Instagram meme pages remind us that yes, graphic design is our passion. This is our time. Rise up and get goofy. This is a public health order.

Kate Matson’s proposed idea comes after more than 4000 mostly maskless Melburnians took to the streets for an anti-lockdown protest that resulted in over 200 arrests and six Victoria police officers hospitalised. Earlier this month, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard tried to encourage Year 12 students to get vaccinated by name-dropping Lana Del Rey.

All adult Aussies (yep, even if those of us under 40) are currently able to get the safe and effective AstraZeneca vaccine through a GP. Click here to see which clinics are offering it, and talk to a doctor to see if it’s right for you.

Alternatively, you can triple-check to see if you’re eligible for the Pfizer vaccine here.

The best vaccine is the first one you can get, and that’ll be our ticket out of this mess.
