Residents in Phillip Island are also urged to get tested after a confirmed case went on a “three-day trip.”

“They had a three-day trip at Phillip Island and went to everything you can do at Phillip Island apart from the penguins,” Victoria’s COVID response commander Jeroen Weimar said, per Ten News First’s state political reporter Simon Love.

The new cases come after the state’s Premier Dan Andrews announced a snap five-day lockdown to stay on top of the outbreak. It’s the fifth lockdown Victorians have experienced since March 2020. Oof.

“This will be a hard lockdown similar to or identical to what we did a couple of weeks ago,” Premier Andrews said on Thursday.

“If you were authorised to work then, you will be authorised to work now. If you were closed then, you will be closed now. It is detailed, absolute clarity.”

During the snap lockdown, Victorians can only leave their homes to exercise, provide or receive caregiving, for essential goods like groceries and medication, to receive a vaccination, and if they cannot work from home.

Masks are required indoors and outdoors if you can’t maintain a 1.5m distance from others and you can only travel for those five reasons in a 5km radius from your home.

Victoria has administered 16,751 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours since midnight, bringing the total jabbed to 1,379,885. With NSW and Victoria under stay-at-home orders, there are currently up to 12 million Australians in some form of a lockdown right now.
