VIC Police Are Hunting A Bloke Who Chucked An oBike At A Train

Before we begin here we need to make something very clear: This is a crime, we do not condone it, it’s lucky that no one got hurt.

Now that said, lol.

Victoria Police are on the hunt for a man who they believe caused hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage after he allegedly threw an oBike at a train near Flinders Street Station.

The frequently mangled, always-in-the-way bike sharing treadlies are a curious hazard in and around Melbourne, with a big heap winding up in the bottom of the Yarra. But this disposal of one of them scores all kinds of points for creativity.

The story goes that on April 29th, at some point between 4:30 and 4:41pm, an unidentified man hurled an oBike off the William Barak Bridge near Birrarung Marr. For those of you playing along at home, that’s the footbridge that reaches over the train tracks and heads towards the MCG.

The tossed bike reportedly caused some $300,000 in damage and wreaked havoc on the Glen Waverley and Belgrave train lines.

A train full of footy fans heading back to Flinders Street from the Collingwood vs Richmond game at the MCG reportedly bore the brunt of the damage, with 120 fans on board forced to wait for an hour outside Flinders Street Station before being allowed to disembark the stalled train and walk back along the train tracks.

Police have issued an appeal to anyone with any information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
