VIC Man Whose Houseguest Was Found Dead Face-Down In Cake To Appear In Court

The Victorian man who plead guilty to the manslaughter of a man found dead with his face in a chocolate cake is slated to face court today for a pre-sentencing hearing.

Craig Levy, 37, is expected to front Supreme Court of Victoria in relation to the death of Ramis Jonuzi, 36, who was discovered unconscious at a Brighton East home on October 25 last year.

In August, Levy admitted to killing AirBnb guest Jonuzi after an alleged altercation over unpaid rent. That guilty plea to manslaughter came as prosecutors withdrew their original murder charge.

During an earlier hearing, Victoria Police Sergeant Paul Stratov alleged Levy called 000 to request police assistance to remove Jonuzi from the premises.

In that call, Levy allegedly said he was holding Jonuzi in a choke-hold with the assistance of another man.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Jonuzi unresponsive in the front yard, with his face in a chocolate cake.

Jonuzi was found to have a broken nose and other facial injuries, as well as injuries consistent with pressure to his neck.

Police were unable to revive him.

Investigators said strangulation was the suspected cause of his death, which was aggravated by blood in his lungs.

Co-accused Jason Colton, 42, is yet to submit a plea.
