As we reported this time last year: “World renowned architect Frank Gehry will design a business building for UTS’ Ultimo campus. In a major coup for UTS, Sydneysiders are promised what would be Australia’s first and in all likelihood only Gehry building. The plans were announced as part of UTS’ $900 million redevelopment of its Ultimo campus with $150 million allocated to Gehry’s 16,000 square metre, 50 metre high building.”
The university approved Gehry’s initial sketches based on a “trajectory to a finished design” that is, a vague idea of what the finished product would look like. A less nebulous look comes courtesy of Gehry Partners who’ve recently unveiled a model scale of the building, now named the Dr Chau Chak Wing building in recognition of a $25 million contribution from Australian-Chinese businessman Dr Chau Chak Wing earlier this year.
