A UK TV Show Played ‘All About That Bass’ Over A Stephen Hawking Tribute

The three funniest things on the internet in the past 24 hours have all been related to the sad passing of famed physicist Stephen Hawking, who died yesterday at the age of 76.

The first was Kirstie Alley‘s incredibly bizarre send off on Twitter.

You had a good go at it” yes ok thank you Kirstie.

The second was Egyptologist Professor Sarah Parcak‘s immediate reminiscing of the time an out-of-control Hawking nearly murdered her.

Ahh yes. “To some, a brilliant mind. To me, a ruddy prick who couldn’t control his sodding wheelchair. Definitely his fault.”

The third funniest thing on the internet, the humble battler in bronze, is this clip from UK breakfast TV show This Morning, which attempted to pay tribute to Hawking in the hours after the news of his passing broke.

I say “attempted,” because all earnest efforts in paying tribute to the late genius were thwarted when someone in the control room forgot that it was a usual ad-break bump in, and for a few brief, glorious seconds we had a video tribute of Professor Stephen Hawking set to the hottest tune of summer 2014, ‘All About That Bass‘ by Meghan Trainor.

Oh yes. Oh lord, yes.

The one takeaway from all of this is that Hawking had a known and quite wicked sense of humour, so he probably would’ve found all this quite funny.

Still, old mates up there are counting their lucky stars the show went to ad break after that flub. Imagine having to come back in and awkwardly try to shoehorn something in.

“Yes ahh… Stephen Hawking. Truly he was… all about that space. No Hubble.”
