Police in the English city of Blackpool took to Facebook overnight seeking help to identify a man wanted for questioning. Fortunately for them, social media users immediately commented on a striking resemblance in the provided CCTV footage.
Not so luckily, the man in question looks exactly like Friends actor David Schwimmer – and the photo has now gone viral.
The commotion started when Blackpool Police sought information on a man they wanted to interview regarding a theft at a local restaurant. The constabulary shared an image seemingly captured in a shop, showing the man cradling a slab of beers and peering straight into a CCTV camera.
With dark hair and eyes, a long jawline, and a lanky frame, the man immediately drew comparisons to Schwimmer. So strong was the man’s resemblance to Friends‘ neurotic fuccboi Ross Geller that folks decided to dob in the fictitious professor, leading to 51,000 comments on the post – and counting.
In the name of due diligence, the cops went ahead and confirmed Schwimmer’s alibi, while also managing to reference the man’s searing similarities.
“Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses,” a police spokesperson wrote on the Facebook post.
“We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way.”
While police endeavour to solve a very real crime with a similarly existent victim, at least the nostalgia-burdened denizens of the internet can have their yuks over this fella’s distinctly Friend-ly face.
