Uh Oh, Looks Like Sussan Ley Slugged Taxpayers For 2 Gold Coast NYE Trips

Embattled Health Minister Sussan Ley apologised and promised to pay back the money she claimed from taxpayers for her cheeky jaunt to the Gold Coast to buy an apartment – but looks like the troubles aren’t quite over yet.

News Corp papers today are reporting that Ley billed taxpayers to travel to the Gold Coast on two consecutive New Years Eve trips. File that under “things that make you go hmm”. She is refusing to comment at this time on what official business she was conducting on the Gold Coast on NYE, and one has to wonder if there’s a whole lot of official business going on in the area at that time at all.

“It would seem unusual to have official business on New Year’s Eve,” Opposition health spokeswoman Catherine King told ABC Radio this morning.
You know when you have News Corp papers saying that “pressure is now mounting on Ms Ley to resign or be sacked” that things are not looking so good for you. If there’s one thing they cannot abide, it is entitlements abuse.
News Corp’s evidence on Ley looks pretty damning right now:
News Corp can also reveal Ms Ley travelled to the Gold Coast at least 17 times between 2013 and 2016, costing taxpayers more than $40,000.

News Corp has attempted to cross reference all Ms Ley’s Gold Coast trips with her parliamentary and ministerial duties — public appearances, media events, press releases, speeches and meetings — but could not find evidence of any “official business” on at least nine occasions.

Yikes. Lets see how this plays out.
