Two Men Arrested Over Melbourne Club Assault That Left Victim Blinded

Two men have been charged in relation to a vicious assault at a Melbourne venue, which left 26-year-old man Elliott Harvey blinded in one eye.

Victoria Police said the Wonthaggi pair, aged 19 and 21, will face charges of intentionally and recklessly causing injury, affray, and other charges related to the May 26 assault.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Harvey described the life-changing impact of the Brunswick attack.
Harvey, who believes he was singled out near Rubix Warehouse due to his distinctive hairstyle, claims he was initially accosted by the men outside the club with “homophobic insults.”
He entered the venue around 10pm. At around midnight, he was allegedly confronted by the men inside the club.
Harvey said “they singled me out and attacked me,” and that once he was on the ground, “they punched my eye out.

“I was just wondering where my eye had gone, I couldn’t see out of my right eye, that’s a pretty alien feeling.”
As a result of the attack, Harvey is unable to drive, and unable to work. He says that surfing, a favourite pastime, is now too difficult on account of the glare.
The two men have both received bail, and are scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
