Two Dead, Others Critical After Suspected Overdoses At Sydney’s Defqon1

Two people are dead and a further two are in hospital in critical condition after suffering suspected overdoses at the Defqon1 dance festival in Sydney overnight.

Per a statement from NSW Police, a strike force has been formed to investigate the deaths of a 23-year-old man and a 21-year old woman, who died after collapsing at around 9pm.

Police say that emergency services attending the Sydney International Regatta Centre responded to multiple reports of suspected drug overdoses throughout the night.

The 23-year-old man and the 21-year-old woman were taken to Nepean Hospital but sadly, both died there a short time later.

A 26-year-old woman from Jamisontown remains there in critical condition, while a 19-year-old Artarmon man is in Westmead Hospital in intensive care.

A further 13 people were hospitalised for drug-related issues, while police say that as many as 700 sought attention from medical staff on site at Defqon1.

A total of 10 people have been charged with drug supply offences following the event.

A 22-year-old Bankstown man, a 33-year-old Mt Pritchard man and another 27-year-old man were all refused bail at Parramatta Local Court today.

Two 17-year-old girl were also charged with drug supply, after allegedly smuggling 120 capsules “internally” into the dance festival venue.
