Tuula Vintage GoFundMe Passes $200K, Doubling Target In Just Two Days

Two days ago, blogger Jessica Stein shared the story of her daughter Rumi’s battle with rare chromosome disorder Mosaic Trisomy 2 – and her family’s struggle to afford specialist treatment – on a GoFundMe page.

Now, the fundraising effort has already received double its initial target, with nearly 5,000 donors chipping in to raise $216,000.

In a pretty heartwarming display of community action, friends, followers, and strangers have chipped in funds for little Rumi’s medical care. At time of writing, donations are still pouring in.

When the fund surpassed its initial target yesterday, Stein – perhaps best known online as Tuula Vintage – said “the heavy knot that has been in the pit of my stomach for months on end is now lodged in my throat; I am lost for words that will ever carry the weight of what this means to us.”

Mosaic Trisomy 2 is an incredibly rare disorder which can manifest itself in craniofacial abnormalities, congenital heart issues, deafness, and intestinal problems, among other symptoms.

In her initial GoFundMe statement, Stein said “Ru’s main medical teams consist of Paediatricians, Genetics, Gastro, Renal, Immunology, Orthopaedics, Dietetics and Speech Pathology.”

The fundraising effort continues. Best of luck to the entire fam.
