Turns Out One Nation Got Their Inauguration Invitations By Asking For Them

You all remember Malcolm Roberts right?

Of course you do, he’s One Nation’s most deeply upsetting climate change denier. The Australian Senator who got in on roughly 80 votes and kept insisting there’s no empirical evidence for global warming well after it’d been provided to him.
Surprising no one, Roberts is a big Donald Trump fan. Big enough to receive an invitation to the Donald’s inauguration, when, if his online gloats are to be believed, even PM Malcolm Turnbull didn’t.

Although it turns out that Roberts wasn’t “invited” so much as he “hassled bureaucrats until he got a ticket”.
In a statement issued to questions from ABC reporter Stephen Dziedzic, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have revealed that “following multiple requests from Senator Roberts,” Australia’s Embassy in Washington basically scrounged around until they found a couple of spare seats.

Presumably, the Embassy did not have to work hard, as scalpers are reportedly losing money on tickets.
It’s worth noting that One Nation’s dear leader Pauline Hanson was similarly not the first pick for her tickets, although it looks like neither will actually be attending; Hanson is staying behind because of “commitments to Australia” (read: campaigning for the Queensland state election), and Roberts reportedly has an urgent medical appointment.
Since enjoying some much-expected roasting on Twitter, Roberts has responded to what looks like every single one of his cyber-bullies:
And in fairness, it’s true that Roberts technically only tweeted he’d received an “invitation,” not that he was personally invited.
However, throwing in that original “OUCH” to Turnbull and neglecting to mention all the effort he put in to getting the seats, means that technicality is basically a big damn cop-out.
He gloated, he was exposed, and now we, the people, get to enjoy the fallout.
