Turns Out Harrison Ford Straight Up Nearly Died On The ‘Force Awakens’ Set

After the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there were a whole bunch of hilarious anecdotes about life on set – including one somewhat startling one about Harrison Ford breaking both his legs and dislocating his hip when a spaceship door fell open on him while he was walking through the set at London‘s Pinewood Studios.

Ha ha, right?
Turns out maybe not. Foodles Production, a Disney production company, has pled guilty to two breaches of health and safety legislation, admitting that the hydraulic door had been operated in error and that it could very easily have killed somebody like Ford.

“It could have killed somebody. The fact that it didn’t was because an emergency stop was activated,” said prosecutor Andrew Marshall.
The door was apparently the weight of a small car, which is something you probably don’t want landing on your pelvis at great speed.
Here’s how Ford described it to talk show host Jonathan Ross:

The door came down and hit me on my left hip because I was turned to my right. And then it flung my left leg up and it dislocated my ankle and as it drove me down to the floor, my legs slapped on the ramp up to the Millennium Falcon and broke both bones in my left leg.

Wild. Glad you’re still with us, Harrison, even if your character isn’t.
