Trump Might Make It Harder For Aussie Tourists To Visit The U.S.

Donald Trump has wasted no time in trying to implement his agenda on immigration through a series of executive orders.
Though he has been targeting refugees and immigrants from a series of Muslim-majority countries, a draft edition of one of his executive orders provided to the Los Angeles Times suggests that Aussies travelling to the United States could also be hit.
As of right now, Australian tourists are able to waive the requirement for a visa by paying a small fee and submitting biographical information online. This visa waiver program allows the tourist to travel to the states for a maximum of 90 days – and it’s used by basically every Aussie travelling to the U.S. for leisure.
According to the leaked draft in the LA Times, Trump’s executive order will immediately suspend the program, meaning that tourists from included nations will be required to have an in-person interview with border agents instead.
The precise wording is as follows:
The Secretary of State shall immediately suspend the Visa Interview Waiver Program and ensure compliance with section 222 of the INA (Immigration and Nationality Act), which requires that all individuals seeking a nonimmigrant visa, undergo an in-person interview, subject to specific statutory exceptions.

Trump is also reportedly planning to block all refugees from the United States for 120 days, and restrict visas from the following countries: Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

We’ll keep you posted.
