Triple J’s Alex Cops A Makeover To Highlight Workplace Double Standards

As if it hadn’t already been a landmark 72 hours for lads wearing makeup, one half of your fav breaky radio duo has charged into that realm face-first.
Alex Dyson, of the eponymous Matt and Alex, took to Facebook a lil’ earlier today to showcase his freshly-applied visage:

We can already hear chins nationwide being scratched as you ponder why a radio presenter, of all people, would go through all that effort. Rest assured, his explanation is actually pretty bloody solid.

After being told by a a flight attendant that her training included an “additional hour for the females to stay behind and learn the intricate makeup policy while the boys cruised home,” Dyson thought he’d sit through a makeup sesh “to see exactly what a massive chunk of the population devote a bunch of time and money to every single morning.”

According to him, the experience was eye-opening.
“I found that this parallel universe that exists outside my own barren bathroom is much more in-depth than I had ever imagined,” Dyson writes, marvelling at the “highly specialised products performing any number of minute smoothing/blending/popping tasks to achieve an overall sense of confidence and presentability to the world.”
He didn’t only gain a technical appreciation makeup, either. Dyson found he could even compare the process to bloody footy:
“I must admit despite my skepticism I found myself becoming fascinated with the scope of it all, and that the passionate conversations around it were not unlike one’s I’d have about the pros and cons of Collingwood football club’s approach during the current trade period.”
The perspective he gained on the issue was pretty revealing, too:

“[It’s] something a person can do for the hell of it that’s easy to get into, tough to perfect, and great for simply being able to spend some time on yourself for once? It all makes sense, and it’s probably something I should have realised sooner.”

While he admitted the process is time-consuming, and gave utmost respect to anyone who operates outside of the norm perpetuated by the likes of that airline, he still offered props to everyone who practices the craft day-in and day-out:
“Whether you have the determination to put in the time, money and effort, or the personal fortitude to say to the world ‘Nup, can’t be bothered. Deal with it”; OR you’ve found a hobby that you enjoy for nothing but your own purposes, you have my utmost admiration.”
