There Are Multiple Reports Of SSM Postal Surveys Being Sent To Wrong Addresses

At least two Sydney residents claim to have received their neighbours’ same-sex marriage survey forms in the mail, raising questions about the postal survey’s integrity.

In a Facebook post, Sydneysider Rachel Tinney alleged she discovered her survey form, and several forms intended for her neighbours, “unceremoniously thrown over our fence” on Monday.

Tinney said the errant forms were then delivered to their intended recipients “to ensure they had the right to vote.”

She criticised Australia Post for its alleged mishandling of the forms, claiming the person responsible was “a (probably bigoted) dickhead.”

A similar claim has been leveled by Reddit user kensaiD2591, who yesterday alleged receiving forms intended for four other people, despite them living in a totally different complex.

“I live in 38, these letters were all address (sic) to 88. A complex three blocks away from me,” the resident of Sydney’s inner west wrote.

“Decided to walk down the road and return them to their rightful owners. Doesn’t fill me with confidence.”

Got 4 other people’s surveys today, deapite them living 3 blocks away from me.

Last week, residents of Canberra apart blocks discovered rain-damaged postal survey forms strewn around their street, after they were seemingly left exposed on top of a mailbox.

Australia Post has denied allegations its employees are mishandling the survey forms. A spokesperson told PEDESTRIAN.TV that “our posties are delivering all survey items securely and as addressed, as they do with all mail items.”

Regarding today’s allegation from Brunswick resident Kerry Ford that 17 postal forms were dumped in her back yard, and that her own postal form had been stolen, Australia Post’s spokesperson urged recipients to me mindful of their mail.

Recommendations from Australia Post include ensuring mail slots aren’t wide enough to allow a hand entry, and using a lock to protect a mailbox’s contents.

Anyone who suspects their mail to have been tampered with has been advised to contact the police.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the government body conducting the survey, says anyone who hasn’t received their postal survey form should wait until September 25 to request a new form in the mail.

PEDESTRIAN.TV has contacted the ABS regarding guidelines for those who have received someone else’s form, and those who believe their own form stolen or deliberately misplaced.

The ABS is accepting completed forms until 6pm on November 7.
