Tom DeLonge Would Very Much Like You To Know That His UFO Academy Is Not Broke

As all of us are deeply aware, we are living in a time when absolutely nothing means anything. The man who previously headed up the US Defense Intelligence Agency‘s UFO program (the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program) is now the “Director of Global Security and Special Programs” at a UFO research institute of which Tom DeLonge is the president and CEO. Sure. I guess so. That’s the sort of thing we get in the news all the time. We don’t even have the energy to be mildly surprised anymore.

DeLonge’s To The Stars Academy mission statement is to become “a powerful vehicle for change by creating a consortium among science, aerospace and entertainment that will work collectively to allow gifted researchers the freedom to explore exotic science and technologies with the infrastructure and resources to rapidly transition them to products that can change the world“. What sort of products, you ask? Everything from “feature films” to “scripted series” to “novelties” to “electrogravitic propulsion” to “telepathy” to “consciousness“. It’s a big brief.

Their goal to bring extraordinary brain powers to the people might be facing a few setbacks, though, with an ArsTechnica report surfacing a Securities Exchange Commission filing that showed the company currently has a roughly $51.9 million deficit. According to ArsTechnia, this deficit is largely due to a stock incentive plan offered to employees. In the filing, To The Stars says that they intend to keep the doors open over the next year by selling shares in the company.

In a since-deleted Instagram post seen by The Fader, DeLonge very strongly objected to the ArsTechnica report, which initially described the deficit as a ‘debt’:

BLATENT (sic) LIE — APPARENTLY, THIS WRITER CAN’T READ. BTW- TTSA never even raised $37m!!? So how in the hell did we spend it?! Lord. I ask all of you that believe in the @tothestarsacademymission to go write a complaint on their website RIGHT NOW for trying to hurt an admirable effort to help humanity by using negative attacks and lies.

Seems a bit weird to call your own efforts ‘admirable’ but, hey, it’s not a crime to believe in your cause.
