Alright, this is extremely cute: Liberal MP Tim Wilson just used his time speaking on the same-sex marriage bill in the House of Representatives to propose to his long-term partner Ryan Bolger.
“In my first speech, I defined our bond by the ring that sits on both of our left hands, and that they are the answer to questions we cannot ask,” he said, tearing up. “So there’s only one thing left to do. Ryan Patrick Bolger, will you marry me.”
Ryan said ‘yes’, and the House erupted into applause.

Wilson and Bolger have been engaged for nine years, with Wilson also using his speech to talk about when they first became engaged, some people told him, “why bother?”, or else fell silent.
Same-sex marriage legislation was introduced in the House of Reps today, and is expected to pass after debate on proposed religious protection amendments.
