Tilda Swinton Co-founded A School, It Is Exactly How You’d Expect It To Be

The Drumduan Upper School in Scotland had it’s first government inspection the other day. According to a writer from the Guardian, who was invited along to a school field trip, the students were all personable, happy, confident, respectful, intelligent and eccentric.

This could be a coincidence. Or, it might be because Drumduan is co-founded by ethereal queen Tilda Swinton. Her children are two of the only seventeen attendees of the school, and it is as unconventional as you are expecting it to be.
“It’s incredibly art-based, practical learning. For example, they learn their science by building a Canadian canoe, or making a knife, or caramelising onions,” says Swinton. “And they’re all happy 17 year olds. I can’t believe it – happy and inspired.”
There’s no testing, no grades, no desks, no schoolbooks, and more than enough whimsy, by the sounds of things.
Disclaimer: this story may sound like a bad parody of a Wes Anderson film, but this school is real. Very, very real.
