Thousands Of Students March In Protest Of University Fee Deregulation

Following the announcement of the Federal Budget which included a fairly grim outlook for University students, and after tens of thousands of people took to the streets for the March in May, thousands of University students have again taken to the streets to voice their displeasure at the Abbott Government and their proposed cuts to higher education and deregulation of University fees.

In major centres across the nation, students descended on city centres, some marching down main streets, others towards Parliament, carrying placards and chanting. Hundreds of Police were dispatched to deal with the protests, and following non-violent, sit down responses from the students, arrests were made on those who defied move on orders.

The protests follows the Prime Minister‘s decision to cancel a planned appearance at the Geelong campus of Deakin University amid fears of being confronted by protesters.
