This Moment Between Gay ‘Gogglebox’ Couple Wayne & Tom Hurt Our Hearts

If you’re a Googlebox fan (who isn’t), you’ll be well aware that same-sex couple Wayne and Tom are bleddy hilarious legends – and very much in love, despite all the ribbing they do for our viewing pleasure.
Based in Melbourne, they’re been together 15 years and raised three kidlets together but – because our country is all backwards – can’t marry because, in the eyes of the law, their love is wrong.

On Thursday night’s ep, the hearts of viewers around the country were ripped out of their chests when they gave us an unexpectedly raw insight into the crushing disappointment that comes with the fact SSM still isn’t legalised.

The guys were watching Andy and Craig marry on Married at First Sight, when Wayne placed his hand on a visibly emotional Tom’s.
“Are you getting romantic?” asked Tom, to which Wayne replied, “No, it’s making me sad.”
When Tom asked why, Wayne said: “It’s mum’s birthday on Saturday, and it’s the one thing she wanted, was to see us married, and we’re never going to get to do it.”

Poor Tom tried his best to comfort his partner, reassuring him: “We can one day.”

Here’s the moment in full:

The question on almost every viewer’s lips after the ep aired was: one day when?
Gogglebox posted the clip to its Facebook page, and viewers were quick to express their disgust and disappointment; it seems a massive kick in the guts to air a same-sex marriage on national TV – and one so disingenuous it ended in ‘divorce’ after a matter of days – when SS couples who’ve built a genuine life together, like Wayne and Tom, aren’t legally able to marry.
There are dozens more comments in the same vein.
Gogglebox isn’t exactly the type of show you expect to stir up serious emotions and spark discussion on a national level, but Wayne and Tom have – and that’s been their goal all along.
Of their decision to join the show (for which they don’t get paid), Tom has previously said:

“For us it’s really about being there and being visible getting people to understand us as a normal couple. Are you listening, Mr Turnbull? Australia is. Are you?”

JFC ARE YOU?!?!
Flip the switch, already.
