A same-sex couple in Melbourne were subjected to terrible homophobic abuse from an Uber driver, who repeatedly called them ‘faggots’ and demanded they leave his car when he was challenged and recorded over his conduct.
During an Uber ride home with my gf, our driver started calling us faggots after we asked him not to use the word faggot. He realised we’re in a same-sex relationship & became physically threatening & aggressive. I found courage to stand up to him & record response. By then he’d already said much more. He then sat watching us go inside my house. Reported to Über, but won’t be given an outcome “to protect his privacy”.
The full audio is embedded below – it’s pretty full on, so content warning for homophobia.
