This Cute Site Is A ‘Lil Reminder Of All The Good Shit That 2016 Brought Us

It’s pretty agreed-upon that 2016 was just not good. It wasn’t a great year. We didn’t really have a grouse time. I could go ahead and list out all the stuff that was just Not Nice™ but maybe it’s easier to look at all the good stuff that managed to happen amongst the deaths, destruction, and certain demise.

Yeah, something like this.
You know what? Someone’s gone and done just that. The Year That Also Was is a super-informative, interactive, and god-damn sweet website that gives us the opportunity to celebrate all the good little thangs that happened in 2016.
As you click around on each of the 366 bubbles – hey that’s one nice thing for every day this year – you get reminded of brilliant things that happened over the last garbage fire of a year. They’re moments that exist, we just need a little reminder.
Like, remember how there’s now a constellation named after David Bowie? Bweeeee so gooooood. Or how India is developing edible cutlery to actively combat the amount of plastic going into landfill? Amazing! Don’t forget how astronomers found what’s probably the roundest thing in recorded nature. Satisfying *and* aesthetically-pleasing, sign me the fuck up.
There’s also friendly reminders of how 85% of Australians believe multiculturalism is good for the country, the NYC pop-up shops helping remove the taboo about menstruation, and Kate Brown – the first openly LGBT person to be elected to state governor in US history. Redeeming moments, people. Focus on that.
The site is the brainchild of the team over at B-Reel, and their main reason for creating this little site of ‘oh yeah that was a pretty sweet thing aye’ was to get people looking at 2016 ‘a little bit differently’ before brushing off the last few moments of this year, and diving head-first into 2017 with a bit more optimism.
I dunno about you, but I’m absolutely ready to slam dunk this year into oblivion, but hey at least there was *something* ok about the last 12 months.
