There Now Exists A Tinder-Style App For Dog Adoption

With respect to Tinder, Grindr, 3nder and whichever super-niche smartphone hookup app was invented since I started writing this, the only swipe-based app you’ll need to keep you warm this winter is BarkBuddy.

BarkBuddy (note: not a shady hookup app for the dendrophiliac market) is a location-based smartphone app aimed at iPhone users which connects potential pet owners with a pomeranian-sized hole in their hearts with sad-eyed pooches who need companionship, unconditional love and a place to call home.

BarkBuddy sources its recommendations from PetFinder, a service which aggregates adoptable dogs using data from animal shelters and other rescue organizations, as well as parent company Bark & Co.’s own network of around 2,500 shelters. All in all, there’s around 300,000 dogs to swipe through.

So how does it work? Download the app from iTunes and fill out a form detailing the qualities of your perfect dog. Swipe through dogs in your area, right for “yes” and left for “no”. The more you swipe, the more attuned to your preferences the app will become. Keep swiping until you finally see “the one”, after which you can directly arrange a meet and greet. Easy.

From there, just hug its tiny body until your heart explodes.
