The WA Libs Are Srsly Looking Into Seceding & They’re Calling It Fkn “WAxit”

Ahhh, good: the West Australian Liberals have just voted, 89-73, to investigate the state seceding from the rest of the nation.

Because that’s always gone so well for other states/countries/international unions!!

The motion wants to establish a committee “to examine the option of WA becoming an independent state within the commonwealth“, and for some reason they are calling it WAxit.

WAxit.

This whole thing is taking place entirely within the WA Liberal Party, btw – the policy motion passed today at the Liberal state conference south of Perth.

Apparently secession has been a big topic for WA right from the start, with proponents of the move claiming that the state gets the short end of the stick from the federal government even though it contributes more than its fair share – particularly when it comes to GST.

(And on the topic of secession, let us not forget about the Principality of Hutt River: the self-proclaimed independent sovereign state within WA, which has given us the enduring joy of a prince named Graeme.)

The WA state opposition leader Mike Nahan has said that all the talk of secession was an understandable “expression of underlying frustration” about how the state is being treated by the federal government, but remains unconvinced by the motion.

In my opinion: go ahead. Do the WAxit – as long as you promise to give us more monarchs with incredible names. Her Royal Highness Princess Cheryl. His Majesty King Keith.

I’d move there in a heartbeat.
