The State Of Things Is Thus: It’s More Exxy To Buy In Mount Druitt Than NYC

A enterprising / dream-shattering real estate blogger has uncovered the sobering truth that the median price of a property in Mount Druitt in Western Sydney is more expensive than in New York, Paris, Tokyo, Boston, and every city inside the United Kingdom including Greater London that is not actually the City of London itself.

Let us repeat. Mount Druitt, expenno. London, less-expenno. NYC, are you even trying?

Mount Druitt, which was infamously documented upon by SBS‘s documentary ‘Struggle Street‘, has a median house price of $622,000.

NYC, on the other hand? $AUD535,974. What the fuckity fuck fuck.

The depressing as hell find was made by real estate blog LuckyOz, but their numbers were taken from 2015 and therefore out of date.

The above figures, however, are both taking from the latest 2016 data, with NYC’s market rate coming from the Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey 2016. Here’s a snapshot of some other major cities with a cheaper median house price than one of Sydney’s most outlying suburbs.
Greater London – $487,630
Toronto – $533,177
Miami – $378,840
Singapore – $394,240
Tokyo – $350,286
(All prices have been converted to AUS based on current exchange rates.)
In fact, the data shows that Mount Druitt has a greater median house price than Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane ($589k, $430k, and $480k respectively).
It does not, however, beat Melbourne, which sits at a cool $730,000. And nor does it even come *close* to Sydney’s, which is above the one million mark.
Moral of the story: choose to live anywhere that isn’t Sydney or Melbourne, or start selling used undies online stat. These are your only choices.
