The Spongebob Musical Reeled In Some Wonderful/Bizarre Musical Writers

It was recently announced that a Spongebob Squarepants musical will be hitting Broadway next year.

Thankfully, the production will not be relying on giant costumes of the cartoon characters (because that would be slightly terrifying, no?) and say they will be showing all of the actors’ faces – so we’re pretty intrigued as to how they’ll pull that off.
Even more intriguing however, is the score of the show. While we can all happily sing the theme song of the show, the production company has managed to reel in some very surprising – and very impressive – musical contributors.
So far, these musicians will be writing and/or contributing music to the 2016 Broadway production, ‘The Spongebob Musical’:
  • David Bowie
  • Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry
  • The Flaming Lips
  • John Legend
  • Lady Antebellum
  • Cyndi Lauper
  • The Dirty Projectors
  • Panic! At The Disco
  • Plain White T’s
  • T.I.
  • Jonathan Coulton
  • They Might Be Giants
So, that’s possibly the most absurd thing you’ll read all day, and we hope your dreamscape tonight is a trippy 80s David Bowie filmclip featuring sponges and squirrels who live in fruit at the bottom of a watery abyss.
