The Power Rangers Reboot Now Has A Release Date

This is happening. It’s time to forget about hanging on to whatever complete feelings of nostalgia you may still have, because they’re about to be changed forever like so many other beloved franchises. The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers theatrical reboot is not only actually going ahead, but it’s got a release date and a crew attached to it that… actually, y’know what? It might not be as bad as first thought.

Back in May we learned that film company Lionsgate had partnered with the Power Rangers owning company Saban Brands to develop a new live-action film based on the much beloved moral panic inciters. Now we know that that movie is coming to hit us right in the nostalgia on July 22, 2016. So you’ve got quite a while yet to prepare yourselves.
More to that, it’ll be executive produced by Roberto Orci, who previously took similar reigns on films such as Transformers, Star Trek and The Amazing Spider-Man. And as far as story goes, writing team Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller have been tapped for the job, having done a perfectly bang-up job on prior joints like Thor and X-Men: First Class.
Casting? Director? That all remains to be seen. But for a film that really only needs to be about a bunch of hormonal teenagers prancing about in jumpsuits and piloting giant fuck-off robot dinosaurs that beat the shit out of giant space critters, we’re certainly on the right path out of the gate.
And just for the sheer hell of it, let’s bask once in again in the unadulterated complete badass glory that is the original TV series theme song.

You cannot look me in the eye and tell me that song doesn’t get you SO. FKN. PSYCHED.
You cannot do that.
