Diesel, a 7-year-old French police dog, was shot and killed late last year during a raid on terror suspects in Paris. Five police officers were also injured during the raid in the suburb of St. Denis, but police chief Jean-Michel Fauvergue said Diesel probably “saved the lives of policemen who were about to enter” the building.
Three suspects were eventually captured by law enforcement officers.

ICYMI, Russia’s reaction to the news was somewhat more pragmatic: they told the French they’d straight up donate a police dog to fill the hole Diesel’s death left. After all, the death of an obviously capable police dog would be a significant blow to any law enforcement outfit.

Well, Russia have come through with their word. In a mark of almost unbearably touching solidarity, young Dobrynya has jetted off from Russia to his new home in Paris. The German Shepherd – whose name is synonymous with strength, kindness, bravery and selflessness – put on a show for journos in Moscow before reporting for duty.
Bad things are gonna keep on happening in this world of ours, but for every Diesel, we’ve got to hold out for a Dobrynya.
