The NSW Government May Have Rorted Us $1.5M In Harbour Bridge Tolls

COOL, so it turns out that the NSW Government may have incorrectly and unfairly charged Sydney Harbour Bridge motorists almost $1.5 million in tolls, thanks to allegedly faulty equipment.

In some top quality  investigative  work, the Daily Telly found that, since 2013, motorists have been slugged with a 55% ‘video processing fee’ whenever the Harbour Bridge reader fails to read their E-tag.

Harsh, but fair, if you don’t have an E-tag; BUT – if the equipment is faulty, and you’re being charged even though you played by the rules and got a bleeding E-tag, then that’s some fresh bridge t(r)oll bullshit right there.

Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Duncan Gay says he doesn’t think there’s a problem with the equipment, but they’re looking into it, anyway:

“I was getting a number of people contacting my office.”

[DRAMATIC REENACTMENT]

“I think it’s fair that we make sure that this equipment is operating properly.”

The Telly also revealed that lanes nine, 14, and 17 are most likely to charge you extra $$$. AVOID.

Lane 18, however, apparently doesn’t have the video identification technology yet. ~ wiiiink ~
