Watch What Happened The Exact Moment Australia Learned We Voted ‘Yes’

Australia has returned a ‘Yes’ vote in the postal survey on the issue of marriage equality, and the pervading national sentiment is somewhere between “FUCK YES”, and “YIIEEEWWW.”

Members of Australia’s LGBTQI community and their allies gathered across the nation in preparation for the news, ready to celebrate a hard-earned victory – or to mourn a heartbreaking setback.

Fortunately for all involved, the latter never came to fruition, and footage of punters reacting en masse to the affirmative result is bloody fantastic.

Crowd gathered at Prince Alfred Park in Sydney:

On the steps of the State Library of Victoria, in Melbourne’s CBD:

And at Queens Gardens, in sunny Brisbane:

While there’s still work to be done to ensure marriage equality becomes enshrined in Australian law without a series of miserable caveats, this moment is worth celebrating. Well done, pals.
