The Internet’s Own David Thorne Getting An HBO Series And A Special With Chris Lilley

Viral prankster, humourist, satirist, writer, and general, overall legend/douchebag (depending on what side of the coin you sit) David Thorne has long carved out a notorious name for himself across the web for his masterful mock annoyances of people and hilariously constructed email to-ing and fro-ing. Now it appears he’s ready to make the leap to TV, with the announcement that not only does he have an 8-part HBO series in the works, but he’ll also co-star alongside Chris Lilley in a one-off mockumentary.

The mockumentary is a one-hour one-off event entitled Cold Feet: America’s Bunny Slopes and features Thorne and Lilley as a pair of snowboarding enthusiasts who throw themselves into the culture head-first, despite not actually knowing how to snowboard.
Said Thorne of the project, “Chris plays Derek, a Shaun White devotee to the extent of dying his hair red, while I play his best friend Josh who spends more time trying on different outfits and buying new gear than on the snow.” “Chris and I first met a couple of years ago at a function and share a similar sense of humour. In his words, ‘We’re like peas in a pod. Except I’m talented and famous’.
Cold Feet airs in the US in August, and will air in the UK and Australia in September, which will be followed by a DVD release in October.
As for the HBO show, it’s being developed with Jim Vallely who previously earned a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on cult favourite Arrested Development. Set in a design agency, the series is described as being a cross between The Office and Eastbound & Down. Casting begins next month with filming set to take place throughout September. The series is tentatively set to air next February.
Thorne rose to internet prominence on the back of a viral internet exchange in which he attempted to pay an overdue account with a drawing of a seven-legged spider. He has since gone on to publish two books, The Internet is a Playground, and I’ll Go Home The, It’s Warm and has Chairs.
We keenly await what feats of pure assholery make it across to the small screen.
