The Internet Responds to Abbott’s Minister for Women Comments

Yesterday, Prime Minister Tony Abbott appeared on Today (never a brilliant start to anything) and proudly told host Lisa Wilkinson that his biggest achievement as Minister for Women was scrapping the carbon tax.
“Well, you know, it is very important to do the right thing by families and households,” he said. “As many of us know, women are particularly focused on the household budget and the repeal of the carbon tax means a $550 a year benefit for the average family.”
At the time, Greens Senator Christine Milne had a go at him for his track record as Minister for Women, and also for hanging on to the portfolio during his recent reshuffle, when the number of women in cabinet doubled to two.
Meanwhile, on Twitter, the Prime Minister has been mocked with the hashtags #ThanksTony and #PutYourIronOut.
It’s just Abbott’s luck that all this is happening over the Christmas period, when everyone’s off work and has the time to sit around making droll image macros:

There’s also quite a bit of this going on:

Nobody’s letting Abbott forget that he once tried to explain the carbon tax to the women of Australia in terms of ironing:
This has been another day on the internet.
