The Girl From That Viral NYC Catcall Video Is Now Suing The Creators

You may not recognise Shoshana Roberts’ name, but you probably know her face. She’s the girl who featured in that viral video from anti-street harassment group Hollaback!, of a woman being sexually harassed while walking around New York City for 10 hours:

Roberts became part of the video after responding to a Craigslist advert, and was allegedly only paid $200.
After the video went viral, Roberts’ started receiving rape threats, death threats, and a horrendous barrage of online abuse. Talking to Village Voice in May, she seemed unimpressed with the producers lack of support against the vilification she was receiving:

“It’s frustrating when the nonprofit gets donations, and the director gets ad revenue, and I get people wanting to slit my throat.”

This frustration seems to have escalated, with Roberts now announcing she is suing the creators of the video, Rob Bliss & Hollaback! for US$500,000.
In the report, the aspiring actress says that the non for profit used her image to push their agenda, and violated her civil rights by creating and releasing videos containing ‘creative content, performance, image, likeness and persona for the purposes of advertising or trade without her prior written consent.’ Google, Youtube, and restaurant chain TGI Friday‘s have also allegedly been brought into the dispute, for using the clip without her permission and/or parodying the initial video.
