‘The Big Sick’ Cops A Debut Trailer & It Might Be The Romcom Of 2017

Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gordon‘s real-life relationship didn’t exactly have the smoothest of starts.
Shortly after the comedian and the writer began dating, a persistent cold turned into something far more sinister for Gordon, landing her in hospital in a medically induced coma for 12 days.
In any new relationship that, coupled with the extended recovery time, would prove to be something of a very large obstacle to overcome. But a decade on, Nunjiani and Gordon are happily married and form a fairly unique and effective working partnership that has seen them co-create a bunch of TV shows, among other things.
But their lives are about to be put onto the big screen in the coming months, with the impending release of the romantic comedy ‘The Big Sick,’ which dropped its sweet and funny-lookin’ debut trailer today.
The film, written by the pair and directed by ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘ writer Michael Showalter, follows their real-life relationship from its fumbly, turbulent beginnings, through Emily’s illness and Kumail’s subsequent forced and awkward relationship with her parents, as well as his own parents disapproval of his relationship with an American woman.
The cast sports a star-studded cast that includes Nunjiami as himself, Zoe Kazan as Emily, and Ray Romano, Holly Hunter, Bo Burnham, and Kurt Braunohler.
It’s already copped incredible buzz out of the Sundance Film Festival, with many critics labelling it the best film of the festival and one that has the potential to upstage its big budget rivals during the US summer film season.
Get squarely around the trailer below.

Judd Apatow‘s production juggernaut is backing the film in, and it’s due to hit cinemas on June 23rd.
Definitely one to keep an eye out for.
