The Age Doesn’t Know The Difference Between Nazeem Hussain And Waleed Aly

Of all the people to make this mistake with, it had to be these two. Boy oh boy…

Waleed Aly is a journalist, media commentator, regular contributor to The Age, and just got announced as the new permanent co-host of The Project, officially taking over the chair vacated by his good friend Charlie Pickering earlier in the year, and bringing a little semblance of stability to the rotating motley crew of temp hosts that Channel Ten has been employing in the intervening months since Pickering’s departure.

The Age – again, an organisation that employs Aly – made a note of the announcement in a small feature column in their printed paper this morning. It looked a little something like this.

It’s a simple, quick and easy gesture acknowledging Aly’s plum new gig. Except that, y’know, that photo isn’t actually Waleed. It’s Nazeem Hussain.

Yep.

Fortunately the Internet was swift to step in and point out the Age’s error, and to prove conclusively that the pair are not, in fact, one and the same.

Still, it’s a pretty common error at big newspapers that can happen from time to time – though you do have to wonder what the sub-editor was inputting into search fields to yield this particular mix up.

Again, we say repeatedly:
