The Aftermath Of Those Chinese Warehouse Explosions Is Absolutely Fucking Horrific

The sheer size and scale of the twin explosions that flattened a chemical warehouse in the port city of Tianjin – in north eastern China – is almost unfathomable.

The explosions – caused by a fire in an industrial area of the city – ripped through toxic chemical and gas containers, levelling buildings, and killing at least 50 people, with as many as 700 suffering injuries in the blasts.
In fact such was the ferocity and power behind the fireballs, that Google Earth managed to capture a pair of stark, sobering before and after pictures that show just how much damage was done.
Here is what the area looked like before the fire began.
And here it is again after the explosion ripped through everything.
The explosions produced so much heat that weather satellites in high orbit picked them up from 36,000km above the ground.

And it’s little wonder when you see the scale and ferocity of the explosions themselves, with numerous civilians managing the capture the chaos on film.
They were – not to put too fine a point on it – absolutely fucking terrifying.

Truly the stuff of nightmares. You feel for the poor families affected.
