The 2012 Ultrabook Blogster Awards: Live Blog

Tonight we’re at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney for the 2012 Ultrabook Blogster Awards. I’ll be your host coming at you through the ether this evening to fill you in on all the Blogster Award happenings as they happen. Thanks technology! We’re live blogging the action because it seems appropriate considering the nature of the Awards. Who will win Sexiest Man Alive? Well, that’s a whole different awards show. Let’s get this show on the road! #Blogsters

7:50pm: Just people watching from the tech booth! We got Carl on sound, Nick on the tweets and me on the mic. Only kidding – I’m not allowed anywhere near microphones.

7:52pm: Reigning King of the Tweet Brendan Maclean is here looking dashing in a brocade evening coat the colour of the Great Barrier Reef. He’s sipping a champagne the lucky jerk.

7:58pm: Pedestrian co-founder and noted dandy Chris has kicked off the official proceedings. “All the Blogster nominees are incredible in their own right,” he says. So true.

8:03pm: The first award of the night is for the King/Queen of Twitter and the crown goes to… Nadine Von Cohen! Brendan literally passed a bedazzled plastic crown from his head to hers. Here is a tribute to Nadine’s unique style of Tweeting: FUCK YEAH NADINE VON COHEN.

8:05pm: Nadine is chatting to the esteemed panel (Brendan, Melissa Hoyer and Kirk Docker) about some of her greatest moments of tweet. They include likening Kanye West and Jay-Z to Jesus and God.

8:09pm: Next up is the Blogster Award for the Fashion category. It’s a really tight category with some amazing bloggers in the mix. The winner is… Sargasso Sea! Vogue Australia, our fashion-related media partner, was incredibly impressed with the blog for its strong voice and the great imagery. The girls from the blog, Bianca and Kellie, came down to Sydney from sunshiney Brisbane for the night. Bianca accepts the award in an insane white patent skirt. I’ll mug her for it later.

8:14pm: Music Blogster Award is up next and the winner is Sound Doctrine. The proprietor Tommy isn’t here so he has sent his mate James along to accept the award. This is piss funny hearing James talk about the blog by proxy. Pretty sure James smoked a bowl five minutes ago. Come to the sound booth buddy!

8:18pm: Tech + Media + Culture AKA the “everything else” category is next. The Award goes to Really Really Really Trying. Max, the author, describes his mantra as “Make fun of shit I like. Make fun of shit I hate. celebrities man, where do they get off?!” Max just described the internet, bar cats. An appropriate winner. Max just said “I really don’t deserve this.” He should have said “I really really really don’t deserve this.” Ha ha! I should have a blog.

8:23pm: Now to the Blogster Award for Food and the winner is… Stovetop Revolution. The woman behind this delicious slice of web is Sophie who says she stole her dad’s camera to take the beautiful photos on her site. Thanks Sophie’s Dad! P.S. Head’s up Sophie’s Dad: Sophie stole your camera.

8:26pm: Melissa Hoyer is in amazing, off the deep end style form this evening. She keeps heaping shit on blogs in general. She just said in a sniveling high pitched voice: “ooh I made spaghetti and I’m going to take a photo of it!” like the person who invented sarcasm. Luckily Sophie’s blog Stovetop Revolution is NOT that kind of blog.

8:29pm: Design + Photography is up next and the Blogster Award goes to Five Words. The girls behind this fantastically executed conceptual blog, Skye and Mel, are here from Brisbane. Brisbane represent.

8:32pm: Can someone please bring me a beer?

8:33pm: Skye and Mel reveal they remember the posts that they really hate as opposed to ones they particularly love. Quite like past party dresses. These girls are a delight.

8:37pm: Brendan Maclean and Melissa Hoyer are now namedropping about how they were hanging out with Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin the other night. La di da. I’m hanging with Carl in the sound booth right now so beat that jerkfaces.

8:41pm: Last award of the night! The 2012 Intel Blogger Of The Year is.. FIVE WORDS! They are totally deserving winners and we can’t wait to hear how their trip to SAN muthafucking FRANSISCO goes. That’s it! We’re done! I’m going to go fetch a drink (because no one in this room of pricks made my request).

Good night and good blogging!
