A female teacher at an elite Sydney private school has pled guilty to having sex with a 17-year old student multiple times .
The case had received attention last year after attempts to suppress the name of the school – Sydney Grammar in Darlinghurst – failed. In the earlier hearings, it was revealed that the 33-year-old woman was in contact with the male student thanks to their involvement in extracurricular activities.
The woman pleaded guilty to six charges of having sexual intercourse with a person under care. Court documents allege that the sexual encounters occurred in Newtown and Darlinghurst early last year.
Sydney Grammar headmaster John Vallance confirmed that the woman was suspended as soon as allegations came to light, and parents were informed. Support was offered to students.
“The employee concerned was suspended and forbidden to have any contact with pupils pending the outcome of the matter,” Dr Vallance said.
The woman will face court again later this month.
