Sydney’s Jordan Askill Wins Brit Design Award

Despite the Australian soccer team’s less than ravishing performance on the international stage on Monday, there’s no shortage of talented Aussie locals being recognised in the international spotlight. Sydney-born jewellery designer and sculptor Jordan Askill has been named one of the recipients of the British NEWGEN Sponsorship Awards.

Presented by the British Fashion Council and supported by Topshop, the influential NEWGEN sponsorship was awarded to 21 of London’s emerging young designers out of 400 applicants. Awarding prizes in three categories (catwalk, installation and exhibition), recipients of this year’s sponsorships included the amazing womenswear designers Mary Katrantzou and Peter Pilotto, with Askill receiving sponsorship in the Exhibition category with 2009 Central Saint Martins graduate David Koma and body jewelry maker Fannie Schiavoni. Kudos!

Not content with winning internationally renowned sponsorships, making ridiculously beautiful triple heart rings and receiving public applause, Askill has found time to join forces with his brother Daniel and their longtime friend dancer-choregrapher Adam Linder to create a project commissioned by the Sydney Dance Company, entitled Are We That We Are.

AnOther Magazine, “We used neutral, tight-fitting base costumes that allowed the audience to follow the performers’ movements whilst giving the characters a sensual allure. They wore headdresses with bells, trinkets, flowers and chains to represent these heightened states of mind.”

If you would like to get your hands on Jordan Askill’s beautiful pieces they are only available three places: Land’s End in Sydney, the Rick Owens Boutique in Paris, and the Dover Street Market in London – one of the most fabulous shopping joints in all of the Britain.
