Sydney University Tutor Savaged For ‘International Student Pigs’ Tirade

Students have called for a Sydney University business school tutor to resign, after student newspaper Honi Soit reportedly uncovered evidence of Wu Wei calling Chinese students “pigs”, and that “….all Chinese students do is complain about their school and their courses, it’s all worthless garbage”.

In an article posted yesterday, it’s claimed several incendiary (literally – there’s one where he burns his Chinese passport) posts on Wu Wei’s Weibo page have caused several of his students to question his position in the university, and whether his apparent disdain for the country would make him biased against Chinese students.

Several of the offending comments, translated by a member of The Sydney University Business Society, highlight some of the concern:

“A Chinese international pig representative told me that I am a shame of the Australian-Chinese international community. It is such a pity because I am your tutor of you international student pigs.

The Usyd finance course is very difficult, not sure how many international pigs will hire essay writer because of their low IQ.”

“The local PHD students are far more interesting than the Chinese students. We can discuss all kinds of multinational political issues and cuisines.

This is way much better than your country’s (Chinese) students since all your conversations are just about complaining the school, complaining the course, absolutely rubbish.”

The comments have sparked heated discussion on the Sydney University Business Society Facebook page, with some claiming the comments are evidence of an inherent bias, while others are defending his remarks as brave:

A statement released by the Business School’s Dean Professor Gregory Whitwell says they’ve made “note the allegations made against a tutor and view them extremely seriously,” and “the Business School is currently investigating these allegations.”
