Sydney Scuba Diver Dies Overnight After Reportedly Being Hit By Lightning

Some very grim news this morning: a scuba diver who was reportedly hit by lightening while at Shelly Beach yesterday afternoon has died overnight.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene – a popular dive spot near Manly, NSW – just after 5pm yesterday. The 62-year-old man was pulled from the water and treated at the scene, but later died at Manly Hospital.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Channel 9 reported yesterday that two divers had “gone into cardiac arrest after being hit by lightning at Shelly Beach,” but after an extensive search, NSW police believe the man was diving alone, a spokesperson said.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner, and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the event who have not yet spoken to police to come forward.

Weather reports say this weekend’s going to be a shocker, mates; stay safe.
