Sydney Opera House To Be Lit Up W/ Indigenous Art Animation Every Sunset

Well, this is genuinely great.

Starting tonight, the exterior ‘sails’ of The Sydney Opera House will permanently host a seriously beaut light and sound feature, showcasing work from five preeminent Indigenous artists.
Animations inspired by the art of Jenuarrie (Judith Warrie), Frances Belle Parker, Minnie Pwerle, Alick Tipoti, and Lin Onus will be projected on the eastern side of the Opera House, every sunset and again at 7pm.

The seven-minute projection is entitled Badu Gili, which means “water light” in the local Gadigal language. That’s a pretty apt description for the work, which will literally highlight elements of Australia’s Indigenous cultures.
Rhoda Roberts, head of First Nations programming at The Opera House, says Badu Gili will show visitors to one of Australia’s most famous landmarks “a sense of that lore and identity that seeps across this country.”
There’s even more good news: you don’t need to be in Sydney to catch the show. Badu Gili’s first screening will be livestreamed on the Opera House’s Facebook page from 5:45pm tonight. You can, and should, check it out HERE when it goes live.
