Sydney Is Officially Australia’s Worst City To Drive In, But You Knew That Already, Hey

Sydney, Melbourne, Driving

A study into the world’s best and worst driving cities has confirmed what you pretty much knew already – specifically, that Sydney traffic is the absolute fuckin’ worst, and you’d have to be a mug to even consider getting behind the wheel of a car there.

The research was conducted by European automotive group Mister Auto, who collected data on hundreds of major cities, and ranked them in areas including the number of cars per capita, traffic congestion, and road and public transport quality.

They eventually whittled their shortlist down to 100, considering other factors including car accident fatality rate, air quality and “incidents of road rage, in order to paint a picture of the aggressiveness and general driving culture.”

I know what you’re thinking, but surprisingly, Sydney didn’t actually pull up too badly in the road rage department – it was only number 47, putting it roughly in the middle of the pack. Osaka is apparently the least road-ragey city, while Ulaanbaatar is the worst.

In terms of the overall score, Calgary is the best city to drive in, coming in at number one on the list, while Mumbai is the worst, coming dead last at 100.

Of the four Australian cities surveyed, Perth actually came up surprisingly well at 13, while my dear old home town of Brisbane is a disappointing 67.

Melbourne came in at 83, while Sydney is all the way down at 86, just one better than New York. Really let that sink in for a moment.
