Sydney Man Forcibly Removed From Chatswood Balcony After 12 Hour Stand-Off

A day-long stand-off between a man perched above a balcony in Sydney’s Chatswood and police has finally come to an end, with the unnamed man taken into custody.

The man had been sitting on the awning above the the top balcony of the Brown St high-rise from around 7am, when the body of a women in her thirties was also discovered in an alley under neath the building.

It is understood the woman had injuries consistent with falling from a height, and the incident is being investigated as a possible domestic violence related crime.

Speaking to the man via a Korean translator, police negotiated throughout the day, delivering him cigarettes and water over the 12-hour ordeal.

At 7.20pm, the man was “pounced on” and “grabbed” by members of the NSW Police Rescue Squad and taken into custody.

He has since been taken to Royal North Shore hospital as a precaution and is currently under police guard.
