What Shit Luck: A Bloke In His 30s Just Caught COVID After Walking Past An Infected Person In Myer

sydney man catches covid myer

A man is believed to have caught COVID after walking past one of the currently infected individuals in the Myer at Westfield Bondi Junction, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazard said.

Following this morning, there are now two additional COVID cases linked to the Bondi cluster: a woman in her 40s who lives near Westfield Bondi Junction and visits it often, and a man in his 30s in Sydney who visited the shopping complex last weekend.

That man, in particular, is probably having quite a shit time TBH as Hazzard said that CCTV footage appeared to show a transmission between the original case in a driver in his 50s and him after he passed the man in his 50s in Myer.

The dude literally walked past someone infected and caught it. Fuck me, that sucks.

“It is fair to say that this Delta virus would appear to be a near and present danger to anybody who is in the vicinity,” Hazzard said.

While NSW Health is still trying to learn more about the CTV footage, Brad Hazard added that the man in his 30s was “no more than seconds in the near vicinity of the limousine driver in the original case.

“Looking at it, it would appear he was somewhere in the range of between ten and possibly 50-60 centimeters away in a passing situation.”

The two new cases bring the total Bondi cluster to six and follow an updated list of COVID exposure sites in Sydney, including IKEA Tempe and various Central Station platforms.

“My very strong message to the community is if you have been in or around the Westfield shopping centre, you have to understand that it is not just Myer, David Jones,” Hazzard added.

“It is the concern we have that even if you happen to be passing the person who was infectious, for example, on an escalator, walking along a passageway, going through the airspace with a person who has breathed out, we could see you becoming positive.”
