Sydney Fella Has Fingertip Chewed Clean Off In Wedding Reception Bust-Up

A Sydney man allegedly had his fingertip gnawed off by a random gatecrasher at a wedding reception over the weekend, and the only consolation seems to be that he wasn’t the groom.

Witnesses claim a 42-year-old man wandered into the function at Campbelltown’s Court Tavern on Saturday and attempted to pinch unattended handbags from guests’ tables.

A 47-year-old guest intervened. In the ensuing fracas, it’s alleged the intruder bit the man’s finger off to the first knuckle. Not exactly an ideal situation, considering the circumstances.

Police were called at around 9.30pm, and were able to arrest the alleged digit-chewer. He’s been charged with grievous bodily harm, and will face Campbelltown Local Court later today.

The victim received treatment at Liverpool Hospital, but doctors were unable to surgically reattach his fingertip. He’s since been released.

That wasn’t the only violent incident at the reception, either: police witnessed a fight between people understood to be guests outside of the venue, which resulted in the use of pepper spray on a number of individuals.

A 19-year-old was knocked unconscious as a part of that scuffle, and also received treatment at Liverpool Hospital.

We’re hoping the honeymoon is a little less eventful.
