A 25 Y.O. Sydney Man’s Mercedes Burst Into Flames After He Tried (And Failed) To Do A Burnout

Police have charged a 25-year-old guy with dangerous driving after he tried (and dismally failed) to do a burnout in the Sydney suburb of Chester Hill on Sunday, burning his car down and trashing the street in the process.

Footage posted to Reddit shows the man trying to rev his Mercedes Benz AMG C63 S on a quiet suburban street, however the wheels refuse to spin. Eventually, it burst into flames.

The sound is enough to make anyone who’s into cars wince, and the outcome enough to make everyone else cringe out of second-hand embarrassment.

Unfortunately the video cuts out riiiight when it starts to get interesting, so don’t get to see the smoldering hulk of the Mercedes. On the upside, that is a perfectly cut scream if ever I heard one.

The car, which costs over $150,000, was completely destroyed by the fire, and even parts of the road were damaged. The two guys in the car luckily weren’t hurt.

At first they told police that the car caught on fire while they were driving down the road, but after footage emerged, police issued the driver with a court attendance notice on Tuesday.

On the same day, the clip was posted on the subreddit r/IdiotsInCars, where it racked up over 20,000 upvotes in its first 24 hours.

“I’ve done better burnouts on a riding lawnmower,” commented one person.

But others were kind of glad he wasn’t able to pull off the burnout, considering where everyone was standing by the road.

“I’m glad he didn’t turn off traction control, else he might have spun out into the crowd watching him as his driving skills are inept,” one person said.

“This way, he burned the car that he never deserved to have. He needs to buy a used Prius if his insurance pays off on this abuse. They probably won’t after seeing this video!”

Lesson learned: turn off the traction control before attempting a burnout. Or better yet, don’t pull this shit in the first place.
