Sydney Blokes Trek To North Korea To Test Their Insane Haircut Regulations

Two Sydney fellas have traveled to North Korea with the express purpose of landing slick new do’s, in an attempt to debunk a widely-circulated rumour that the isolated nation only allows its male citizens to rock certain haircuts.

In a mini-documentary outlining their equally bonkers but intriguing mission – and, make no mistake, everything about the hermetic North Korea is intriguing to punters in a Western democracy like our own – Aleksa Vulovic and Alex Apollonov demonstrated that even well-maned blokes from Newtown can land themselves whatever haircut they like in Pyongyang.

YEP.

The goal, according to Vulovic, was to critique a media environment which he believes seizes upon sensational yarns about the troubling state. He said “what the haircut law and all these other amazing stories share in common is that at the very centre of this media whirlwind, they’re based on absolutely nothing.”

While it’s one thing to doubt the laws regarding citizens’ hair, it’s another thing entirely to discount North Korea’s aggression towards what it considers to be adversarial nations. Still, securing a cheeky trim does a pretty decent job of humanising the regular folk in a country many of us only hear about in (possibly) hyperbolic media accounts.

Kim Jong Un remains a fucking bastard, though.

Watch the entire doco right here. If you’re just keen to see the trim itself, skip to the ten minute mark:
